Preserving and Interpreting the History of Our Village Since 1970
|
Our Beginning
In April 1970, the Lemont Area Historical Society met in the Old Stone Church to organize. Shortly after, the following officers were elected: Thomas F. Ludwig, President; Donald Urick, Vice President; Helen Bittles, Secretary; Ronald Hamelen, Treasurer; the Board of Directors, Madeline Hamelen, Regis Mathy, Sylvia Savage, Bernice Johnson, Gloria Egermaier, Harry Swanson, and Walter Tedens. The first exhibit by the Society was held on September 5–7, 1970, during Lemont’s “Keepataw Days” celebration. Well over one thousand people came through the building to view the exhibit.
