During July, members of the Lemont Area Historical Society created an exhibit on the main floor of the Old Stone Church so that it would be handicapped accessible. Looking at our collections we decided to concentrate on just three local artists.  Gathering information from Newspapers.com we wrote three short biographies of the artists.  Recently, LAHA had shared over 100 microfilm local newspaper rolls with Newspapers.com

Old Stone Church Angel
Joyce Affelt

Joyce A (nee Gerrie) Affelt.  Joyce’s family moved to Lemont when she was 11 years old.  Her art career started when she decided to take six art lessons in 1995 at the Lemont Park District Centennial Community Center.    In 1998 she said that as a young girl “The steeples from all the churches in Lemont motivated many of my paintings”.  She went on to paint a series of our steeples, depicting churches from the east to west as one drives south over the Lemont Road bridge.  Her “Steeple “series includes both summer and winter scenes.  We are displaying some of her greeting cards as well as a picture of her famous “Christmas Eve – Village of Faith: watercolor.  Some of her works are also for sale in our gift shop
